Hydroseeding is more than just grass.  You can seed any type of seed you would like.  For example:

  • a field of wildflowers
  • grass
  • crops

Hydroseeding is a cost effective method to establish vegetation which to aid in erosion control.

Easiest way to describe Hydroseeding.  It is a process of mixing a slurry in a tank (Hydroseeder).  One type of slurry recipe would be:

  • fertilizer
  • seed
  • tackifier
  • wood or paper fiber-mulch
  • water

Once the slurry is mixed, it would then be sprayed on to the area.

In addition, to various types of seed used in Hydroseeding there are also different types mulch.  Each type of mulch has a different purpose.  Some mulches are specific for flat lands, whereas others are designed for steep slopes even a 1 to 1 ratio.  The steeper the slope the more advanced mulch is needed to provide erosion control and hold the seeds in place.  This would allow the vegetation can establish.

In some cases, there a soil replacement material that can be used in areas where the soil conditions may not have enough organic material.

Hydroseeding is also termed as hydro-mulching or hydraulic mulch seeding. Hydroseeding is effective because the seed is suspended in nutrient rich slurry. The mulch layer seals in the moisture and keeps the seed in place and acts like a mini-greenhouse effect. It is a completely environment friendly approach.

Benefits of Hydroseeding

  • HydroSeedingShort planting time: seeding using this technique is generally quick. This process enables quick plating even when planting in huge space.
  • Erosion control: This process is very effective in reduction of erosion on hillside lawns and sloping areas.
  • Less expensive than sod: As compared to planting with sod, Hydroseeding is cheaper.
  • Easy to maintain and high germination rates: The results are generally quick with very high germination rates. The mulch maintains the moisture around the planted seed and as a result, the rate of germination is increased.
